50mm gone... only the 28-200 left

Yep, 50mm went... the Quantaray 28-200 remains, but for how long?

Wow, apparently the price was too low...

... or just right. Camera body sold.

eBay rocks... one down, three to go

The Battery Grip already sold... eBay is pretty cool with how fast you can sell this stuff. Anyone want to pickup the others before they go?

For Sale: Canon EOS D30

I upgraded my D30 to a new Rebel XT, so now I'm selling my old equipement.

Mike Harsh may not be updating his blog, but he is helping sell my stuff!

Mike posted this stuff on eBay: D30 Body, Battery Grip, 50mm F/1.8 Lens, and a 28-200mm F3.8-5.6 Lens. It's all in great shape and has served me very well. If you know someone that's looking to get into a digital SLR, this might be a good way to get in cheap.

Need a real review of HP Photosmart 2610

If you know of a web site or have personal experience with the HP Photosmart 2610, could you please let me know? My wife bought one tonight at a local office supply store... I can't find any real reviews, only advertisments pretending to be reviews, on the net...

If you have anything, please email me at "chrisan.AT.microsoft.DOT.com"

Thanks in advance!

No more film!!

"Isn't this interesting?
Eastman Kodak Co. on Tuesday said it will stop selling traditional film cameras in the United States, Canada and Western Europe, another move by the troubled photography company to cut lines with declining appeal in favor of fast-growing digital products. [Full Article]" from Sean Slavin

Phone advice...

Since you all responded to the video card challenge I thought maybe you could have a phone recommendation... I want to replace my Motorola v.66 with a camera phone, and I want to do it before PDC so that I can moblog while presenting :)

Suggestions?

(Yes, I know that this short "say nothing" post flies in the face of my previous pledge to stop posting these lame type of entries, but I actually need help, I mean who can really think of writing when you are faced with a critical decision like purchasing a camera phone??)

Don't believe everything you see!

"Almost a little creepy! Check out these images from Greg's Digital Archive. Greg is a freelance photo designer, who can make magic out of ordinary photos. I especially like the digital tablet photos, before and after. And the touchups of people are amazing! Next time, don't believe everything you see!" [From John Porcaro]

Camera, take 2

Tons of good advice on the small camera front... unfortunately I may have moved too quickly... The requirements turned out to be:

  • Under $300
  • Available at the local camera shop

That was about it... I ended up buying a Canon A70... we have 10 days to return it, so if it really sucks I can still recover. So far this has passed the most critical step - Megan likes it. I think that Michael's suggestions (non-canon) would have been good to investigate - as it was I panic purchased and went with a brand name in the price point that I wanted...

Oh well... I do like the movie feature though...

Buying a compact digital camera

The Canon D30 is great for taking photographs... sometimes you just want to take some snapshots... Right now the Canon PowerShot S230 is my front runner... my problem - my wife is leaving for a vacation on Thursday so I have to buy the camera tomorrow...

Any advice?

Hard Drive Camcorder?

Michael's great find... pretty cool!

Digital photography and color

John Lam is talking about digital photography work flow... I can totally agree with the fact that color matching is such a huge pain. I worked in a tee-shirt shop for a while and the on screen colors of the Mac was so far off from what eventually was on the custom designed shirts (printed from the mac to a color laser printer with thermal transfer paper that was then pressed on the shirt) that we had to have a color swatch and try to talk customers out of believe what was on the screen.

At home, I continue to have problems with printing my pictures. Every Photoshop book that I read devotes about 25% of the book to color. Experts at Microsoft that I have talked to have gone into great depths as to the root cause of all these problems - however it is apparent that today getting accurate color between the camera, screen, and printer is basically impossible for a mere mortal like myself.

Is 11 megapixels enough?

Luminous Landscape (Joe point this site out) has a great writeup on the new Canon 1Ds where they talk about what the future of digital photography is about... and it isn't lots of new pixels.

Panoramic photos

Wow, just saw some amazing monster digital panoramic shots... Max Lyons and Brian Caldwell have awesome examples

Photography

So i really enjoy taking pictures, but have not gone out shooting for a while. I'm really trying to get better, but I haven't yet taken any classes. I shoot with a Canon D30 and primarily use a Canon 24-85 3.5-4.5 lens. Of course, the real lens that I want is a Canon 70-300 IS L lens... just can't pony up the dough for a hobby.

I shot about 7,500 pictures last year, almost 2,500 of which I took in a 3 week period when I went to Spain and the San Juan islands in Washington. I'm trying to make up in quantity what I can't do with quality.

You can check out some pictures that I submitted to PhotoSig. I'll try to post some samples on my 'blog, although I don't want to bog down Brian's server.
